Make sure
you mark the 31th of March in your diary. Why? Because that’s the day the sixth
edition of Earth Hour will take place! Environmental-minded as we all are, the
name, or at least the concept, of this initiative should ring a bell. Once a
year, as much households, companies and governments as possible turn off the
light collectively for one hour. And not because candles are homey and romantic
– however, that can be a motivation too – but mainly because they want to fight
against global warming.
Earth Hour
was initiated by WWF-Australia. In March 2007, 2,2 million people were set back
in time, to an area without electricity, for an hour. Over the past few years,
more and more countries followed their example once a year, which makes Earth
Hour the biggest awareness campaign against climate change.
This year,
WWF wanted to do something more: it’s all about green energy. This non-profit organization
desires indeed a future with 100% renewable energy. Three energy suppliers
support this initiative and have an attractive offer for the participants of
Earth Hour. Do you find this interesting? Go to their website (earthhour.be),
follow my example and sign up! And if you’re not yet convinced, watch this
heartwarming video.
